Kajol was born in Mumbai to a family of Bengali and Marathi descent on the 5th August 1975. She belongs to a family of filmmakers and her mother Tanuja is a renowned actress herself.

She got married to the famous Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan in 1999 and since then is doing well for herself. Her first movie Bekhudi in 1992 was a box office failure and she then went on to do the movie Baazigar in 1993 which shot her fame as she starred opposite Shahrukh Khan in the movie.

Then her movie Yeh Dillagi won her nominations for Filfare Award too. It was the year 1995 which set her place in the film industry with Karan Arjun and the one of the biggest movies in Hindi cinema made by Aditya Chopra called Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and that got her the first Best Actress Award too.

Later she stared in movie like Gupt which was a hit and won her the best Villian Award an award which was won by a woman for the first time in Bollywood.Then she went on to do hit movies like Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya , Pyar Toh Hona Thi Tha but it was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which again shot her to stardom with best actress award and then again in Karan Johars Kabhi Khusi Kabhi Gham which was one of the biggest hits of the year.

She made a successful come back after a period of lull with Kunal Kohlis Fanaa and again got her best film actress award. She was recently seen in the movie My Name is Khan opposite Shahrukh Khan and is busy making the remake of the Hollywood movie Stepmom opposite Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor. She has lent her voice for the cartoon movie Toonpur Ka Superhero.
