Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor has planned to do something special for her school in Juhu on the eve of Makar Sakranti and she is going to donate 3000 kites for children of the school. Only kites are not enough so she will also donate phirkis and maanja alongwith kites.

Sonam, who appeared in blockbusters like saawariya and Delhi 6, took this step to save birds, which are affected by glass-coated kite string.

Sonam, who is also member of Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), sent a letter to the principal. In the letter she mentioned that she will make her every effort to save birds and for that purpose she decided to donate kites.

“I can remember my early days when I was plying by kites with my friends and I got serious injury by maanja. So, when I was approached by PETA to take this step to save birds, I impulsively accepted it” said 25 year old actress.

Sonam also revealed that “Earlier, I have decided to send to deliver the Kites and other items personally, but due to some problem it could not happen.”

She further said being a star it is her responsibility to create some awareness and save our birds and anima. She also said that every star should take this step to save beautiful creation of god.       

According to PETA spokesperson, “Children love birds as well as flying kites and they never want to harm the birds. So it is up to the people. If we use cotton string in kites, it will not be much harm as glass-coated.” He also reveled that government should ban to use of glass-coated maanja.
