Bipasha Basu was born on the 7th January 1979 in New Delhi to a Bengali family. She is the middle daughter of her parents as she has a younger and an elder sister in the family. She did her schooling from Calcutta. She began her career with modeling and right fromher early days was involved in modeling.

Her first major success came with her winning the Fords Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest in 1996 after which was taken to New York for an even more prolific venture in her life. She made her debut in Bollywood with Abbas Mustans Ajnabee which confirmed her hot on screen presence amongst audiences.

In 2002 she landed up doing a telgu movie called Takkari Donga opposite Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu. It was not until Raaz a Vikram Bhatt movie that she made her presence as a sure shot figure in Bollywood. Raaz was one of the biggest hits of the year. Then she appeared in Jism in 2003 opposite John Abraham which again made the audiences sure of her acting capabilities.

Later in 2008 she was again in a hit movie called Race which was directed by Abbas Mustan and it proved to be very beneficial for her in the long run. Then later she also went on to do movies like Bachna Ae Haseeno opposite Ranbir Kapoor which kept her presence alive in the bollywood industry. The film was a commercial success.

She is alo rumoured to be venturing into Hollywood and has signed a role opposite Billy Zane in a movie called Chaimera. She is also into making other off stream ventures like making a BB Love Yourself fitness Video which she launched in 2010. Currently she is seen in movies like Lamhaa opposite Sanjay Dutt and her future Venture would include movies like Dum Maro Dum and Aakrosh.
