Amrita Rao was born on the 17th June 1981 and is an Indian actress. She was born in Mumbai and she belonged to a Hindu family in Mangalore. She can easily speak in Marathi and did her schooling also in Mumbai. She then went on to her graduation in Psychology while studying in Sophia College.

She started modeling for many brands in her college days and she did ads for Fairever Face Cream. However it was her appearance in Cadburys Perk Karwa Chaut ad and Bru Coffe advertisement that she got recognition on screen and directors from Bollywood started to approach her.

Then she madder her acting debut with Ab Ke Baras in 2002 and hen did in 2003 movies like Ishq Vishk. She also had a small role in one of the Bhagat Singh movies in 2002 opposite Ajay Devgan. In 2004 she did movies like Masti and finally shot to main stream through her appearance in Main Hoon Na in 2004.

The movie was a hit and people loved her role in this film and she shot to limelight as a fine actress when it came to getting the good roles in the movie. She also landed up doing a flop movie that year called Deewaar which flopped and did do so well on the box office.

The year 2005 saw her doing movies like Vaah! Life ho to Aisi and Shikhar both of which were not a success at the box office. In 2006 Vivah movie did manage to get her a lot of attention and it was not until 2007 Heyy Babyy that she was again back in the limelight.

She won claims with movies like Welcome to Sajjanpur in 2008, Life Partner in 2009 and her future projects involve Hook ya Crook and The Legend of Kunal.
